One of Those Days

20.8.15

It is one of those days, friends.

The kind of days that make you want to repeatedly plunge your head in the toilet, throw your hands up, and quit everything. Where the tiniest mishaps exponentially build upon each other. Where you feel so suffocated by the endless stream of bad karma, misfortune, and parking tickets that all the hope you've stored since your last bad day is sucked from your body and you feel like you're fighting against 10,000 orcs of Mordor with nothing but a toothpick. (Yes, I just made a Two Towers reference. No, I am not sorry.)

You know these kind of days. You've seen 'em, had 'em, lived 'em.
And yet, days like today wipe me out just as much as any other bad day I've ever had. You'd think I'd learn to show some resilience after a while; perhaps adapt and learn to cope until an even worse day came around. Nar, ladies and gentlemen. Unfortunately, I am not yet immune to a case of the bad day blues.

So to redirect all the negative juju up in this hizzle, I'm going to start listing things I'm thankful for.

my mom's knock knock jokes
a portable AC unit from the '90s
having a car
deep dish pizza
understanding roommates
the sky this morning
blankets
jesus
worn-in tshirts
hands
feet
:)
^those smiley faces
milo greene
cold water
pancakes
education
pb

So much more...

It's so easy to get blindsided by those days. Smooth sailing is great; the world's at it's best, so you're at yours. But the minute you sense the tiniest ripple, everything seems to start rolling downhill real fast. There's mutiny and foul mouths, tears and violence. It says a lot about someone when they can keep a steady hand on the helm; grace under fire. I think that's one of the truest forms of wisdom. (goals amirite?)

Namaste,
J
